Congratulations to Caden Brooker, a 2013 graduate and valedictorian of Fort Frye High School in Beverly, Ohio!
Caden has been awarded the inaugural Simonton Windows $1,000 scholarship through a program offered by the American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA), an organization with which Simonton maintains active membership.
Caden, who will attend Ohio University this autumn to study mechanical engineering, is the son of Steven Brooker, Senior Mechanical Designer in the New Product Development area at Simonton Windows in Parkersburg, W. Va. A Simonton associate since 2003, the senior Brooker made his son aware of the scholarship opportunity in February of this year after learning of the opportunity in the online employee newsletter. Caden Brooker’s winning entry was selected from more than 65 nationwide submissions to receive the scholarship.
“The AAMA Scholarship and Partner Program are opportunities for children of AAMA member company employees to obtain financial aid for higher education,” says Rich Walker, president and CEO with AAMA out of Schaumburg, Ill. “These programs encourage the growth of the building industry. We’re especially pleased that Simonton Windows joined our Partner Program this year and is now issuing its first award.”
Caden Brooker, who maintained a 4.0 GPA at his high school and was Class President, lives in Marietta, Ohio. At the time of his graduation in May, he was a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. He was on the Principal’s List every grade period in high school and on the President’s List for every grade period during the last two years when he took Post-Secondary Enrollment Option at Washington State Community College. Brooker was also captain of his school’s basketball and baseball teams during his senior year and did a variety of community volunteer work.
