Get Involved in Local Home Shows

Have you visited your local home show in the past several years? It may surprise you to hear that many builders and remodelers answer "no" to that question. Most think they're either too busy or it doesn't interest them.

                At Simonton Windows, we think home shows are important. Why? Because local shows bring out community citizens, who are potential home buyers and remodeling clients. If you're interested in covering all the bases to reach potential customers, you should know and understand who attends local home shows.

                To maximize your time investment, do your research. Determine what home shows are held in your area, when they're held, who sponsors them and what competitors of yours participate. And remember, you don't have to go it alone. If you decide to rent a booth space, your local suppliers and dealers may be able to help with co-op funds for the space, displays, literature and other merchandising materials.

- Offer your services as a professional resource to media partners of the show. Suggest you be on a radio show and have listeners to call in and "ask the builder" a question. Or, do a TV or newspaper interview on hot trends in the market, new products, energy-efficient products, etc.

- Offer to construct a child's fantasy playhouse for the home show. Have it in a prominent location at the show with signage that the dream playhouse was constructed by your company. Direct people back to your booth for a chance to sign up and win the playhouse. Or, better yet, suggest the playhouse be raffled off to benefit a children's charity and get involved to receive more press coverage!
