The free eight-course program is certified by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and allows architects to earn both AIA Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) and a Color Certification designation from Sensational Color.
Similar courses available from Smith on her Sensational Color website carry fees of at least $1,500 each. Architects who take the courses for free through Simonton University are receiving courseware valued at approximately $12,000 --- plus their AIA CEUs --- at no cost.
Offered exclusively through Simonton University, architects can register to take four “Color Core Training” courses, followed by four additional “Color for Home Exteriors” courses. The online courses are available in the Technical School section of Simonton University. The first three courses are now available and include “Understanding Color,” “Color Theorist” and “Color Psychology, Symbolism and Meaning.”
“I’ve developed this Sensational Color Certification Program exclusively for Simonton Windows and architects visiting the Simonton University site,” says Smith, owner and chief color maven of Sensational Color. “Once an architect completes the eight courses, they can promote themselves as achieving their Color Certification by using the CfYH (Color for Your Home) appellation after their name and may include the Sensational Color logo in their marketing materials.”
All eight courses will be posted on the Simonton University site by the end of 2012.
“Color plays a critical role for architects as they design residential and commercial projects,” says Smith. “These online courses provide both scientific and psychological understanding of the importance color plays in design. Architects participating in this program have the unique opportunity to take color courses that build on each other so that they can accurately incorporate colors into their designs and share the influence of colors with their clients.”
