In the March 2013 issue of Professional Builder, results of a readership study show that builders are specifying more and better windows for their home projects ... and that energy efficiency remains the #1 purchase consideration.
More than 80 percent of the builders surveyed say that energy efficiency is their top consideration when specifying windows for new homes ... followed by quality/performance and price. And what are builders searching for most in energy efficiency? More than 90 percent say they're looking for insulated double pane windows with Low-E coatings.
Wood and vinyl remain "neck and neck" in the frame preference area with 86 percent of responding builders specifying wood framed windows and 85 percent specifying vinyl frames. And what specific types of windows are these builders specifying? The majoring are requesting Double Hung windows, followed by Casement and Picture/Fixed windows.
